HAPPY 250TH, AMERICA
In a couple of days the US will be celebrating its 250th birthday. I, like so many, had been a bit worried that the celebrations would be a bit muted because, according to some polls, a bunch of people don't feel patriotic unless their political party is in the White House. It might be the case in some places, but not around me. I live in a cobalt blue part of NY and there are flags everywhere. My local Lowes was almost sold out. Amazon will sell you an American flag, but you won't get it until next week. I don't want to sound too pollyannish, but I think when it comes down to it, most Americans are happy to celebrate the nation.
The United States of America is the greatest nation on earth.
THE SOCIALIST SURGE
As we celebrate our 250th birthday, the internal threats to the US are very real. Over the last several weeks we have seen primary election victories of a bunch of Democrat Socialists of America (DSA) endorsed candidates. Three high profile DSA candidates won in NY congressional districts and this week in Denver another DSA endorsed candidate threw out an already progressive incumbent. According to DSA, 38 of their candidates have won and 38 of their candidates have lost. There remain 74 candidates that still have upcoming primaries.
So, who are the DSA and how are they winning? The DSA is the largest socialist organization in the United States, founded in 1982 through a merger of two older leftist groups. It's not a political party but a membership organization that pushes from within the Democratic Party policies like abolish ICE, defund the police, end support for Israel, etc. While they have a variety of policy items, the hatred of Israel is a top unifying issue for them. The DSA candidate in Denver ran and won because of her stance on Israel, which was very critical.
THE MARXIST-ISLAMIST ALLIANCE
I spent much of the last week and a half studying suggested readings from DSA book clubs. Several of the books are about union organizing. They describe how it's important to find allies within the workplace and the community. One older book explained how the unions collaborating with churches were able to bring about social change. Obviously the churches involved were oldline protestant churches, but the principle still stands. It dawned on me that what Mamdani and other DSA activists have done is replace the church with the mosque. The mosque has become a primary community based entity for pushing DSA ideas. This aligns with how the Muslim Brotherhood grew to become such a powerful force in places like Egypt and Gaza. Sayyid Qutb, the intellectual father of the Muslim Brotherhood describes in both his book Milestones (which Osama Bin Laden described as a primary source for his ideas) and Social Justice in Islam, how Islam has no separation of powers; no distinction between mosque and state. Qutb writes, "Now the faith of Islam, which deals with the whole field of human life, does not treat different aspects of that life randomly, nor does it split up the field into a number of unrelated parts." To drive Islam into all aspects of life the Muslim Brotherhood used a grassroots model to grow very quickly. They use mosques, schools, and businesses to promote their ideas through weekly lectures and gatherings of students and professionals. By teaming up with the mosque, especially those aligned with the MB, the Marxists tap into a ready-made structure to grow the movement.
What unifies both the Marxists and Islamists is a hatred for the God of the Bible and the people who represent Him -- Christians and Jews. It is no surprise that the first thing the Marxists and Islamists do when they take power is to shut down the Churches and Synagogues. They kill the priests and rabbis. They burn the books. The buildings that remain are turned into museums or state sanctioned PR shops. To stop the DSA now will take grassroots movements of Christians and Jews who recognize the fight before us and join forces to defeat this evil. Let me know if you have a movement already or would like to join one.
JOINING THE FIGHT
Finally, it was announced this week that I have joined the Heritage Foundation as a Visiting Fellow for the Davis Institute on National Security and Foreign Policy. My quote in the press release reads, “As America celebrates its 250th birthday, the forces that seek to destroy America’s Judeo-Christian roots have never been more aligned. Sadly, the Marxists and Islamists are now supported by a coordinated effort to infect the right with fringe ideas, conspiracy theories, and divisiveness that have no place in the conservative movement. We must stay vigilant in our commitment to exposing and rooting out antisemitism wherever it exists. Heritage’s initiative to confront this scourge is the very reason I am excited to join the team as a visiting fellow."
To the band of happy warriors for the future of this great Republic, have a wonderful July 4th weekend!
