War Against Israel is War Against God, Delisting Syria, and Tell Me About Candace

THE WAR AGAINST ISRAEL IS A WAR AGAINST GOD
In a little over a month, Wisconsin could select a Democrat Socialist of America (DSA) candidate to represent the Democrat Party in the governor's race. Francesca Hong is currently leading in the polls, but a month is a long time. What struck me this week as Iwatched a clip of a podcast she was on was the following statement, "We have to ensure that we're fighting for the pro-Palestine movement and that folks understand that the liberation of Palestinians is intrinsically tied to the liberation of all of us." Ms. Hong isn't the only one to declare something like this. At the George Washington University commencement, one of the speakers declared, "None of us are free until Palestine is free."

Why is it important for the DSA activists and candidates to declare this idea? It is because the liberation of Palestine means the end of Israel. And Israel is a stand-in for God. To destroy Israel is to destroy God which would bring about liberation from God's commands and expectations.

In the book of Ezekiel, the prophet is told by God both the purpose of the exile from the land and the purpose of the restoration of Israel back to the land. There's a repeated phrase where God says he will do something and it will be proof that He is God. For example, "Then the nations that are left all around you shall know that I am the LORD; I have rebuilt the ruined places and replanted that which was desolate." (Ezekiel 36:36) God's very reputation among the nations is tied to Israel's existence. Israel is the living testimony that the God of the Bible makes promises and keeps them. You cannot look at a reconstituted Jewish state in the ancient homeland — after two thousand years of exile — and call it a coincidence. It is a provocation to every worldview that denies a sovereign God who acts in history.

This is precisely why Israel is uniquely intolerable to the Marxist-Islamist coalition driving today's progressive left. Marxism demands that the state be the ultimate authority. God is a competitor — and history confirms the logic. Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Castro all followed the same playbook: when Marxists come to power, churches are destroyed. The God of the Bible represents an authority that cannot be subordinated to the party, and so he must be eliminated.

Karl Marx was once asked who he hated the most in Britain and his answer was a British preacher named Charles Spurgeon. Spurgeon was a revivalist preacher who was leading thousands of working-class people to faith and taking away Marx's army. Marx hated him for it.

Similarly, the Islamists demand total submission to Allah. The God revealed in scripture, particularly through Israel and the Church, is a rival truth claim that must be suppressed. When Islamists come to power, the churches and synagogues are destroyed. The ones that aren't destroyed are turned into museums or government-controlled PR outlets. Back in 2014, when I started advocating for Christians in the Middle East, there were over 450,000 Christians in Iraq. Twelve years later, there are less than 185,000. There are more Christians in Israel than Iraq.

The Church can be driven underground. Pastors can be imprisoned. But Israel's national existence is harder to dismiss. It stands as an open-air, undeniable, geopolitical witness that the God of Scripture keeps his covenants and repeatedly declares that Israel is a proof for God. You cannot imprison a nation-state. You can only try to destroy it.

Circling back to Hong's statement, "The liberation of all of us" is liberation from the God whose name Israel bears. The language borrows the grammar of salvation — none of us are free — and repurposes it. It is a counter-gospel, promising liberation through the destruction of God's most visible earthly witness which, aside from the Church, is Israel.

DON'T CONFUSE DELISTING SYRIA WITH TRUST
I've got two more quick points of analysis. First, it appears that President Trump may soon remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terror. There is no doubt that this will cause of bit of angst for all who know the troubling history of Syria's current leader. He was a terrorist who beheaded people. But let me give a backdrop to this you might have missed. First, without Syria being controlled by anti-Hezbollah Sunni, Israel would not have had the success it has had in Lebanon. Nor would the Christians of Lebanon be in the position they are in. Syria was the land-bridge for Iran to supply weapons to Hezbollah. Once the supply lines were cut, Hezbollah weakened significantly. Secondly, sending Syrians back to Syria from the US and Europe is almost impossible until the designation is removed. So, for US domestic immigration policy, the US will change the status of Syria. That doesn't mean we should trust its leader.

TELL ME ABOUT CANDACE
Finally, I have been hearing that Candace Owens is very popular among young moms. I have been looking for more information on this trend. If you have any insight, please send it my way. I'd really appreciate it.
